Chronology of an Organization that has Transcended through Time

On October 12, 1892 the first Chamber of Commerce of Nicaragua was founded, thanks to their founders' important decision, their historical legacy has been proudly picked by upcoming generations, this has allowed to build a solid organization that represents merchants.

The first Statutes were published in The Gazette No. 90 of November 19, 1892, and the historical meeting that gave origin to the first Board of Directors was in October 12, 1892, exactly 400 years after the discovery of America.

In honor to the foundation date in the year 2000 the “Merchant Day” was instituted through the presidential agreement No. 422-2000.

After their foundation in 1892, a new stage arose on July 27, 1928 when in the rooms of the Varieties Theater in Managua, a group of merchants reactivated with new human and financial resources the Chamber of Commerce and Industries of Managua.

In 1970 the General Assembly of Members made a total reformation, but conserved the basic principles. A second reformation of the statutes of the Chamber of Commerce of Nicaragua was made due to an Extraordinary General Assembly in January 25, 2001.

In spite of being a solid institution and of national and international prestige the Chamber of Commerce of Nicaragua has been through difficult periods in its history.

Two earthquakes destroyed Managua in 1931 and 1972, bloody civil wars destroyed the headquarters of the institution in different occasions. Currently, the Chamber of Commerce of Nicaragua is located in a centered business area in Managua, from the Round The Gûegûense 400 meters to the south, 80 meters.
